Analogue Film is a fledgling community of film-based photographers from Hertfordshire and surrounding areas.

We hold photowalks and social meet-ups throughout the year with the aim of supporting the dying art of analogue photography.

Our events are designed to be open to all, relaxed and enjoyable.

Being creative is recognised as one of the most effective ways of ‘reconnecting with oneself’, and devoting some time for self-preservation or self-rescue!
We are acutely aware of the effects of modern living on our mental health and we urge anyone to try using photography as a tool to help relieve some of those issues.

Please visit us on instagram to see all our updates.

We look forward to seeing you… And if you don’t yet shoot on film… then bring a digital!!!!

By way of an introduction… My name is Jay

Like many people of a particular age, I learnt photography with a basic 35mm camera and gained skills and knowledge in a traditional darkroom.

Over the years, I’ve used 35mm, 120/220 (6x4.5,6x6,6x7), 4”x5” film formats, and yes, I was also swept up in the tides of change and shoot digital.

My main photographic work was within the Blue Light Emergency Services. I now use photography as a creative outlet and to aid my wellbeing.

As time flies by, I am feeling a greater connection with the equipment and processes I used to use years ago. The urge to rekindle those skills and keep analogue alive has meant dusting off some of that old kit and getting back in the darkroom. And with some less-than-favorable experiences with traditional ‘camera clubs’, I decided to do something by myself…

I look forward to meeting you on one of our meet-ups or photowalks… Who knows - we may even take a few photos!!!

Photowalk - ‘Analogue Wonderland’ #bigfilmphotowalk

Date
28/06/2025

Event Ref:
n/a

I recently joined around 45 other photographers at the annual Analogue Wonderland ‘Big Film Photowalk’ on the Southbank in London.

One of around 50 photowalks happening on the same day across the country, this event was supported by Kodak and Pentax.

The images seen here were taken on 35mm film. I used a Nikon F4 and F3 with 20mm, 50mm & 85mm lenses used throughout the day.

Film -
Colour: 35mm KODAK ProImage 100. (developed and scanned by Analogue Wonderland)
B&W: 35mm Kentmere Pan 200. (home developed)

For clarity - I did NOT organise this photowalk. I attended.. ;o)

Photography as a therapeutic tool…

Paul Sanders

Join pro photographer Paul Sanders for this short video on using photography as a therapeutic tool. Paul discusses techniques to help you look at photography as a way to help improve mental health and for mindfulness. He talks to today’s world as being noisy and fast-paced. A lot of people struggle to make time to find stillness, and to re-set. If we sit still, we tend to feel guilty because of the time we spent resting. Photography can be a way to own the moment you are in, connect with the outside world, and to find purpose in those daily walks.
This video is supported by WEX & Fujifilm.

PLEASE consider supporting mens mental health…

Boys Get Sad Too was created in 2018 from just a four-word scribble on a notepad.

It soon became clear how much meaning the phrase had after the realisation that though 84 men take their lives every week in the UK, the subject of male mental health is often neglected and overlooked.

Boys Get Sad Too is not just a clothing brand. It is a community of like-minded people who want to see a positive change in the world. We are official supporters of CALM (The Campaign Against Living Miserably) charity who we donate 10% of our profits to, and we actively work to try and raise awareness for the struggles that men face.

Sometimes it feels like you're alone. Boys Get Sad Too is here to show you that you're not.

In this video Sean Tucker talks to street photographer and doctor, Pete Wands about his approach to capturing his home city of Edinburgh in Scotland. He also shares about the mental health benefits which street photography provides him as he finds his flow state when out making images.

“When we sat down to do the interview I also realized that there's another key component to why he does the photography he does and that is that it protects his mental health. It gives him a valve, the creative outlet that lets the pressure down on the rest of his life when it starts to get frantic and busy”…
